Atkinson wins on debut
Spill The Beans (Snitzel) tightened his grip at the top of the leading first season sires championship by number of winners when the Nathaniel Scott-trained Atkinson (2 g ex Hayite by Written Tycoon) landed the Bud Regal Park Maiden Plate (803m) at Coffs Harbour and in the process provided the late Aquis Farm-based stallion with his tenth first-crop winner.
Purchased by Matt Momin for just $2,500 on Inglis Digital Monthly May Sale last year, Atkinson proved too strong for the pre-race favourite Zanshin (Dawn Approach), eventually beating him by a length.
The gelding is the first winner out of the winning Written Tycoon (Iglesia) mare Hayite, who is herself out of five time scorer Dowling Belle (Brief Truce).
Further back, the gelding is from the family of Group 2 winner Reno Belle (Balmerino), who is a half-sister to Listed winner Disco Bob (Royal Academy).
Atkinson’s Sooboog three-quarter sister was sold for $1,250 at the Inglis Sydney Broodmare Weanling Sale in 2019.
Spill The Beans - who sits third behind Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) and Night Of Thunder (Dubawi) in the leading first season championship by prize-money - died in November last year.
