Meadow Land scores impressive victory

A narrow but sound maiden victory for the Kris Lees-trained Meadow Land (2 c Not A Single Doubt - Twirl by Lonhro) was having his second start at Newcastle on Tuesday, after a promising debut second behind Harmonium (I Am Invincible) at Gosford in mid February.

Meadow Land was away on terms with the field and driven along to hold the fence and lead the field turning for home. Coming out to the middle of the course at the top of the straight Meadow Land put a few lengths on the field. He was a little green when left in front but responded well and fought off the concerted challenge of Coat Of Arms (I Am Invincible) back on his inside.

The first two drew six lengths clear of the field and registered a solid time of 52.50s for the 900 metres on the Soft6 surface, in the Amalgamated Cash Services Mdn, giving a strong feeling to the worth of this form. A step up to metropolitan grade for both colts looks well within reach.

Meadow Land was a $250,000 purchase by Tasman Bloodstock from the draft of Newgate Farm at the 2019 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. He is the second foal and first winner for the Sweet Embrace Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) runner up Twirl (Lonhro) who is a granddaughter of Piccadilly Circus (Royal Academy) who produced seven winners headed by champion sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill).
