French-bred son of Declaration Of War to join Canungra base.
French Group 1 winner Olmedo (Declaration Of War) will stand at Aquis Farm's Canungra base in Queensland for an introductory fee of $16,500 (inc GST) in 2020.
Purchased for €100,000 by his trainer Jean-Claude Rouget at the Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale, the son of former shuttler Declaration Of War (War Front) retires the winner of three of his 14 starts and winner of $973,815 in career prize-money.
Olmedo broke his maiden on debut over 1500 metres at Deauville, before going to finish second at Group level in his next three starts, including when second in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Gr 1, 1600m) on his final start as a juvenile.
His first stakes win came in May 2018 when he took out the Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2,000 Guineas) (Gr 1, 1600m). He notched up two further Group 2 placings and a victory in the Prix Gontaut-Biron (Gr 3, 2000m) at Deauville last August.
"My time in Europe afforded me the opportunity to experience elite classic racing and exposure to elite quality bloodlines," said Aquis CEO Tubba Williams.
"Olmedo is the perfect stallion for Queensland and Aquis. He is the highest rated son of Declaration of War, the French Champion 2YO in 2017, he won the French 2,000 Guineas, like Shamardal and Lope De Vega before him, and he trained on to further stakes success at four, confirming his class and durability.
"As an outstanding physical specimen that is completely free of Danehill blood, Olmedo will be the perfect outcross for the abundance of Danehill line mares, adding class, elegance, precocity and strength to an evolving Queensland broodmare population."
Olmedo is out of the winning Pivotal (Polar Falcon) mare Super Pie, whose other foal to race is also a winner.
Super Pie herself is out of stakes placed Super Lina (Linamix) making her a half-sister to Group 2-placed Art Contemporain (Smart Strike). Super Lina herself is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Super Celebre (Peintre Celebre) and the Listed-placed Superman (Bigstone).
Further back this is the family of Grade 1 winner Steinlin (Habitat) and fellow elite level-winning pair Stacelita (Monsun) and Soul Stirring (Frankel).
"In my view, Olmedo is the best stallion prospect to be imported into Queensland, usually stallions with his international credentials are rarely afforded to the Queensland breeder," said Williams.
"We are confirming our support of Queensland, where it all began for Aquis, by establishing Olmedo's career here."Olmedo will stand alongside fellow newcomer Dubious (Not A Single Doubt) at the operation's Queensland base.
