Newgate Farm’s Deep Field (Northern Meteor) looks to have another talented son among his progeny as the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Concealed (2 c ex Ashley's Kitty by Tale Of The Cat) led home a trifecta for the stable in the Microphone at Darley Maiden 2YO Handicap (1250m) at Canterbury on Wednesday.

After finishing fifth on debut at Kembla Grange earlier in the month, the two-year-old colt stayed on well to beat Edmond (Excelebration) by a head with another length back to Oregon (Zoustar) in third.

“He saw no daylight at all at Kembla over the last 300 metres but handled the wet track well and I think that stood him in good stead for today,” said Paul Snowden.

A $310,000 purchase by China Horse Club and Newgate Bloodstock from the Kia Ora Stud draft at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Concealed is out of Grade 3-winning mare Ashley’s Kitty, who came to Australia after being purchased by James Bester for US$310,000 at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale in 2009 and Concealed becomes her second winner.

Ashley’s Kitty herself is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Cupid (Tapit), while her Grade 3-scoring three-quarter sister Heart Ashley (Lion Heart) is the dam of Japanese Grade 3 winner Fiano Romano (Fastnet Rock). The mare also counts Listed winner Indianapolis (Medaglia d’Oro) among her half-siblings.

After missing to Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice), Ashley's Kitty produced a colt by Coolmore Stud’s Triple Crown-winning shuttler American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile) in 2019.

Deep Field has sired 11 two-year-old winners so far this season and he will stand for a career high fee of $55,000 (inc GST) at Newgate Farm in 2020.
