Group 2 winner Strasbourg (I Am Invincible) will join the Rosemont Stud roster in 2020 where he will stand for a fee of $11,000 (inc GST), in a joint partnership between the Victorian farm and China Horse Club.

A winner on debut over 900 metres for Peter and Paul Snowden in December 2018, Strasbourg finished second in the Inglis Nursery (RL, 1000m) at Randwick at his next start. He went on to place in the Schweppervescence Handicap (Gr 3, 1400m) and BRC Champagne Classic (Gr 2, 1200m) before he landed the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 2, 1300m) last May. He retired from racing the winner of two and placed in three of his 12 career starts for earnings totalling just under $470,950.

Bought by China Horse Club, Newgate Farm and WinStar for $750,000 from the draft of his breeder Yarraman Park Stud at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Strasbourg is the first living foal out of the Group 2 placed mare Danish Spy (Dane Shadow). His second dam is Listed winner Super Snooper (Zeditave) who produced eight winners from as many foals to race including fellow Listed winner Forest Spy (Shinko Forest).

Strasbourg’s third dam is Peeping (Todman) the dam of nine winners including Gimcrack Stakes (Gr 3, 1000m) winner Watch (Marauding) who in turn produced another Group 3 winner in Overclock (Xaar).

“I’m incredibly excited to partner with China Horse Club on such an attractive horse,” said Rosemont Stud’s Anthony Mithen.

“He’s a higher performed two-year-old than his illustrious sire and a real clone of him physically. We’re confident breeders would agree he’d be the best looking son of ‘Vinny’ to be found anywhere in Australia.

“Like Brazen Beau, Strasbourg is a Group 2 winning juvenile by I Am Invincible who also shares the same two-year-old Timeform rating as the successful young Darley stallion. In fact, he’s the only I Am Invincible colt at stud to be a winner and stakes performer prior to Christmas.

“He certainly possesses the early sharpness that is typical of his sire and the turn of foot he showed to win the Sires over 1400 metres was one of a proper colt.” said Mithen.

China Horse Club’s Michael Wallace believes that Strasbourg is the best son of I Am Invincible that the operation has been involved with.

“Hearing how good looking they are is one thing, actually seeing the horse in the flesh is another. As soon as you see Strasbourg you will be booking in. It’s that simple,” said Wallace.

“We buy a number of horses every year yet this colt stands out as one of the best types we’ve ever purchased. He’s by far the best looking son of I Am Invincible we’ve had involvement in.

“Not only that, he’s the most precocious son of ‘Vinny’ we’ve had through the CHC system given he was a dominant debut winner and stakes performer as a pre-christmas two-year-old.

“He’s got an ideal profile and genetic makeup to be a successful stallion. We’re thrilled to partner with an emerging organisation in Rosemont and excited to be supporting the stallion with a number of CHC mares.”

There are a limited number of lifetime breeding rights available in the stallion.

“He’ll be set at a very fair fee of $10,000 (plus GST) with Lifetime Breeding Rights available at $20,000 (plus GST),” said Mithen.

“The value in the breeding right is especially hard to ignore given it is two nominations each year for the first three years, then one perpetually. I urge breeders to call in and see Strasbourg for themselves – he is simply next level as a physical specimen.”
