The Mark Newnham-trained Ashra Jahre (2 f ex Jahre by Encosta de Lago) broke her maiden at the fourth time of asking as she proved too strong for her rivals in a maiden plate over 1000 metres at Nowra on Tuesday and in the process provided Vinery Stud-based Headwater (Exceed And Excel) with his sixth first-crop winner.

The two-year-old filly finished strongly to beat Titan Star (Rubick) by three-quarters of a length with another three lengths back to Gullen Glory (Laguna De Bay).

Purchased by Darby Racing and De Burgh Equine for $80,000 at the 2019 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, the two-year-old filly is out of winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Jahre, whose five foals to race have been winners.

The filly's third dam is Group 3 winner and top-producing mare Procrastinate (Jade Hunter), who produced multiple Grade 1 winner Laisserfaire (Danehill) - the grandam of Grade 3 winner Kampala Campari (Querari).

Procrastinate also produced Group 3 winner A Time For Julia (Redoute's Choice) and Listed-scoring trio Foreplay (Danehill), Personify (Galileo) and now sire Time Thief (Redoute's Choice), while she is also the grandam of Group / Grade 2 winners Centennial Park (Thorn Park), Zodiac Ruler (Zoffany) and Group 3 scorers Ballack (Montjeu) and Almighty Girl (Beneteau).

The filly's brother was purchased by Anthony Cummings for $150,000 at this year's Inglis Classic Yearling and she produced a filly by Sizzling (Snitzel) in 2019, while she has most recently been covered by Arrowfield Stud-based sire Dundeel (High Chaparral).

Headwater's progeny is headed by Group 3 winner Wisdom Of Water and he will stand at Vinery Stud for a fee of $13,750 (inc GST) in 2020.
