The late Widden Stud sire Sebring (More Than Ready) was handed his 60th stakes winner courtesy of The Actuary's (2 f ex Fast Talker by Fastnet Rock) victory in the The Phoenix Stakes (Listed, 1615m) at Doomben on Saturday.

The two-year-old filly was purchased for $450,000 by Gollan Racing, John Foote Bloodstock and Black Soil Bloodstock at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of her breeder Widden Stud and she stayed on well to beat Toscanini (Fastnet Rock) by a length and a quarter with another quarter of a length back to Outburst (Real Impact) in third.

Gollan said he wasn't sure if The Actuary would progress to the spring carnivals in the south.

"I know The Phoenix has produced a lot of future black-type winners in the spring but I am not sure this year's race will prove that strong," Gollan said.

One of his main supporters has been his childhood friend Brian Siemsen who now runs Black Soil Thoroughbreds that heads the syndicate which races The Actuary.

"I think he spent about $1.5 million at the sales last year so he deserves every success," Gollan said.

"I joke he was born under a rainbow but we have had a good run with other horses such as Niedorp lately."

The well-bred filly is out of Listed-placed Fastnet Rock (Danehill) mare Fast Talker, making him a half-brother to Listed winner Persuader (Zoustar) who won the Twilight Glow Stakes (Listed, 1400m).

Fast Talker herself is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Crystal Dreamer (Stratum).

The filly's third dam is the good-producing mare Crystal Snip (Snippets) - the dam of 2010 Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Crystal Lily (Stratum) and Listed-winning duo Amatheon (Al Maher) and Crystal Web (Stratum), while she is also the grandam of Carrara (Elvstroem).

Having slipped to Zoustar (Northern Meteor) in 2018, Fast Talker produced a filly by the Widden Stud-based sire the following season and most recently slipped to fellow Widden Stud sire Trapeze Artist (Snitzel).

Sebring's progeny are headed by six Group 1 winners; Dissident, Criterion, Egg Tart, Amphitrite, Lucky Bubbles and Nettoyer and he died in 2019.
