The Vinery Stud-based first season sire Headwater (Exceed And Excel) chalked up his second winner in as many days and ninth overall as Mr Colorful (2 c ex Holder Sunset by Shamardal) landed the Independent Liquor Group Maiden 2YO Plate (1000m) at Hawkesbury on Thursday.

Trained by Gary Moore, the two-year-old colt was last seen running second at Gosford, having finished 11th in the Breeders' Plate (Gr 3, 1000m) on debut last October. On Thursday, he beat Magic Ruler (Snitzel) by two lengths with another half a length back to Winds Of War - who is also by Headwater.

Purchased by George Moore Bloodstock for $100,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Torryburn Stud, the two-year-old colt is out of the three time-winning Shamardal (Giant's Causeway) mare Holder Sunset, who is herself out of Group 3-placed More Than Ready (Southern Halo) mare Montana Sunset.

Montana Sunset herself is a half-sister to Roman Consul Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner Montana Flyer (Flying Spur) and Listed-placed Carravaggio (Al Maher).

Holder Sunset's 2018 filly by Your Song (Fastnet Rock) died and she has most recently been covered by Eureka Stud-based sire Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo).

Headwater sired his eighth winner on Wednesday when the Richard and Micheal Freedman-trained Gunnamatta (2 c ex Umaquest by Umatilla) landed the Yes Yes Yes at Coolmore Maiden 2YO Handicap (1150m) at Randwick. The stallion's progeny is headed by Group 3 winner Wisdom Of Water and he will stand at Vinery Stud for a fee of $13,750 (inc GST) in 2020.
