The Kris Lees-trained Sequana (2 f ex Leviosa by Magic Albert) became the tenth winner for Vinery Stud's first season sire Headwater (Exceed And Excel) when she won the Alfabs Maiden Plate (1200m) at Mudgee on Sunday.

Unplaced on debut at Scone last month, the Australian Bloodstock-raced filly scored a two and a half length victory over the three-year-old gelding Council (Krupt).

Bought for $20,000 by Shire Bloodstock from the draft of Amarina Farm at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale, Sequana was bought by Australian Bloodstock for $65,000 at last year's Magic Millions National Yearling Sale from Ambergate Farm.

Sequana becomes the first winner for her dam Leviosa, a six-time winner and Listed placed daughter of Magic Albert (Zeditave). Her second dam is the dual winner Seena Baleena (Zoffany) who produced seven winners including the Listed placed gelding Tom Tom Cat (Catbird).

Seena Baleena is a sister to the Group 2 winning pair Clan O'Sullivan, winner of the 1992 Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m), and Burning Embers being out of the Scahill Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) winner Blazing Bags (Baguette).

Leviosa was covered by Rubick (Encosta De Lago) last October having produced a filly by fellow Coolmore-based sire Vancouver (Medaglia d'Oro).

Headwater, who won the Silver Slipper stakes (Gr 2, 1100m), will stand the 2020 breeding season for a fee of $13,750 (inc GST).

The late Aquis Farm-based stallion Spill The Beans (Snitzel) sits at the head of the leading first season sires table by winners in Australia with Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) and Headwater both having sired ten winners each in Australia this season.
