NZB Ready2Run graduate and son of Medaglia d’Oro wins at Sandown-Hillside
Having finished sixth in the Valley Pearl Stakes (Listed, 1200m) in March, Frankie Two Angels (2 g Medaglia d’Oro - Kassama by Nayef) broke his maiden at the second attempt when he landed the Ladbrokes Same Game Multi 2YO Handicap (1300m) at Sandown-Hillside on Wednesday.
The Denis Pagan-trained two-year-old stayed on well to beat Reuber (Dissident) by a neck with another quarter of a length back to Big Day Out (Delago Deluxe) in third.
"It's exciting, I was really pleased with the way Lachie (King) rode it and couldn't have been more pleased with the result," Pagan told Racing.com.
"It's good, exciting stuff. It keeps you young."
The gelding was purchased by Ohukia Lodge for $100,000 at the 2019 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and then snapped up by Malua Bloodstock for NZ$150,000 at the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale and he is out of the winning Nayef (Gulch) mare Kassama.
Kassama is herself a half-sister to Kesampour (King’s Best).
The gelding’s third dam produced Group 2 winner Kassani (Alleged) and dual Group 3 winner Kassana (Shernazar), who in turn produced Irish St Leger (Gr 1, 1m6f) winner Kastoria (Selkirk).
In 2018 Kassama produced a colt by Exceed And Excel (Danehill) - now named Exmouth Gulf.
Medaglia d’Oro (El Prado) shuttled to Darley’s Kelvinside for ten seasons and he now resides exclusively at Darley’s Jonabell Farm in Kentucky where his fee for 2020 was advertised as US$200,000.
