The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Royal Filly (2 f ex Royal Conspiracy by Strategic) made a winning debut in the Polytrack Maiden Plate (1400m) at Pakenham on Tuesday.

Purchased for $100,000 by Slade Bloodstock at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Baramul Stud draft, the two-year-old filly pulled clear to beat Bishop Rock (Fastnet Rock) by a length and a quarter, while Ocean Blast (Ocean Park) was another neck away in third.

“She was a filly we were prepared to wait for next prep for, but she had done quite well in training and got through her trials in pretty good order,” Maher told Racing.com. “The team have done a good job, aided by a good ride by Jye and she was able to get the job done and win.

“She has been one of those filly’s that has been a work in progress - she is going to get over the ground and develop.

“The spring may come a little bit quick for her, but this time of year she is probably better in work and we will see how she pulls to see whether she will go to the races again. I would think she really furnish in the spring and she will be a really nice staying filly in the autumn.”

The filly is out of seven time winner Royal Conspiracy (Strategic), making her a half-sister to HDF McNeil Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) winner Lady Of Harrods (Dubawi).

Royal Conspiracy herself is out of At Court (Knightly Manner), making her a half-sister to Black Opal Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) winner Fraud (Bellotto).

After slipping to Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) in 2018, the mare missed to Outreach (Exceed And Excel) the next season and has most recently been covered by the same Widden Stud-based sire.

The Coolmore Stud-based Pierro (Lonhro) is sitting second behind Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) in Australia’s leading sires table by earnings and he has sired four two-year-old winners in 2020, headed by Listed winner Untamed.
