The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained Parlophone (2 f ex Roulettes by Flying Spur) ran out a ready winner of the Lightning Stakes (Listed, 1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday and in the process handed Yarraman Stud-based sire I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) with his 56th stakes winner.

The two-year-old filly pulled clear in the closing stages to decisively beat Streetcar Stranger (Stratum) by three lengths with another neck back to Just Zerene (Zoustar) in third.

Parlophone is one of four winners out of Listed-winning Flying Spur (Danehill) mare Roulettes, making her a half-sister to BJ McLachlan Stakes (Gr 3,1200m) winner and now Telemon Thoroughbreds Stud resident Sun City (Zoustar), while she is a sister to stakes-placed Spin.

Roulettes herself is out of Listed-placed Discretion (Canny Lad) - the dam of dual Group 3 winner Royal Discretion (Royal Academy) and Group 3-placed Tactfully (Flying Spur), who in turn produced Vezalay (Shamardal). Further back this is the same family as Listed winner Sir Frenchie (Choisir).

Roulettes' 2018 foal was purchased by Alan Bell for $800,000 at this season's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and has most recently been covered by Arrowfield Stud-based sire Dundeel (High Chaparral).

Promising two-year old filly Parlophone has twice bucked out of the barriers and Price said he was nervous about her behaviour.

"Even with the 52kg, we needed a rider who would have a medium size saddle and medium girth. The filly resents the tight gear, so I had my eyes shut when the gates opened," he said.

"It was good she did not buck and she behaved herself. Hopefully that is behind her and onward and upwards from here.

"The filly is owned by Lindsay Maxsted and Jeff Walsh, they are private breeders and it is important for them to get a stakes win with her.

"The main thing is she is out of a good mare (Roulettes) who throws stakes winners and now Parlophone is one of them. She joins a pretty valuable page."

I Am Invincible looks set to finish third behind Snitzel (Redoute's Choice) and Pierro (Lonhro) in this season's champion sires' championship by earnings and he will stand at Yarraman Park for a fee of $209,000 (inc GST).
