Vinery Stud’s Headwater (Exceed And Excel) sired his 13th first crop winner on Sunday when Yulong Holiday (2 c ex Ella Zabella by Zabeel) broke his maiden over 1400 metres at Echuca. The victory saw the Vinery Stud stallion draw equal with Spill The Beans (Snitzel) who has also sired 13 first crop winners in Australia this season.

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Junior-trained Yulong Holiday scored by a nose from Kiss Me If You Can (O’Lonhro) with Slipintothis (Proisir) another length back in third.

Bred and raced by Yulong Investments, Yulong Holiday is the second winner from as many foals to race out of the winning Zabeel (Sir Tristram) mare Ella Zabella. His second dam is three-time Listed winner Stella Maree (Magic Ring) who produced nine winners and is herself a half-sister to dual Group 2 winner Pasta Express (Rigoletto) and the dam of Geelong Classic (Listed, 2200m) winner Weather With You (Teofilo).

Headwater and Spill The Beans have now each sired 13 first crop winners in Australia, two clear of Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry), who leads the table by earnings, with five days of the season left. The Silver Slipper Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) winner, who is out of the Oakleigh Plate (Gr 1, 1100m) winner River Dove (Hurricane Sky), will stand for $13,750 (inc GST) at Vinery Stud this season.
