The Peter Moody-trained Best Ever (3 c Snitzel - More Joyous by More Than Ready) became the third winner, from as many foals to race, out of multiple Group 1-winning champion More Than Ready (Southern Halo) mare More Joyous when the son of Snitzel (Redoute's Choice) broke his maiden over 1400 metres at Pakenham on Tuesday.

Having his first start, the three-year-old beat the Lindsay Park-trained Queen Of Rocks (Fastnet Rock), a daughter of Dowager Queen (Savabeel), by three-quarters of a length. Kumo Sun (Fighting Sun) was the same distance away in third.

Moody was quick to play down the victory and just hoped the colt could build on his first win on his next start. "We'll just try and build on today," Moody said. "We're not going to get too excited and name Caulfield Guineas or anything like that (as goals), but we'll find a nice 64 somewhere in the next few weeks.

"He's a horse that, a month or six weeks ago, I was questioning what he had under the bonnet, but since we put the blinkers on him, he's turned the corner.

"He travelled with his head in the air a little bit and when he swung for home I thought, 'Oh, you're having a little bit of a think', but when Luke gave him a tap on the backside he did lower and lengthen.

"He probably got a little lost in front, but you'd think he'd improve for that experience."

The son of Snitzel is the third foal and third winner out of the eight-time Group 1 winner and emulates the victories of Woman (Frankel) and More Sundays (Fastnet Rock).

More Joyous herself is out of Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Sunday Joy (Sunday Silence), who is in turn a daughter of Queensland Oaks (Gr 1, 2200m) winner Joie Denise (Danehill).

As well as Sunday Joy, Joie Denise produced a further five winners, including three-time elite level winner Tuesday Joy (Carnegie) and Listed-placed mare Joie (Geiger Counter) - the grandam of dual Group 2 winner Don't Doubt Mamma (Not A Single Doubt) and Listed winner Risen From Doubt (Not A Single Doubt).

Meanwhile, Joie Denise herself is the grandam of 2015 Vinery Stud Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Fenway (High Chaparral) and Group 3 winner War (More Than Ready).

More Joyous' 2018 filly by Snitzel - now called Joyous Legend - was purchased by Bon Ho's Legend Racing for $800,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale earlier in the year and has been sent into training with Gerald Ryan, who also trained Snitzel. After missing to Coolmore Stud's Fastnet Rock (Danehill), More Joyous has most recently been covered again by Juddmonte Farms' stallion Frankel (Galileo).

Last season, Snitzel was crowned Australia's champion sire for a fourth time and he will stand the upcoming breeding season at Arrowfield Stud for a fee of $165,000 (inc GST).
