The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Dame Giselle (3 f I Am Invincible - Ballet Society by Stravinsky) took out the first leg of Darley’s Princess Series at Randwick on Saturday when she landed the Silver Shadow Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) - her second victory at Group 2 level.

There was drama at the start when See You Soon (Siyouni) - who pushed Dame Giselle all the way in the Reisling Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) last season - had to be scratched at the barriers after refusing to load.

Dame Giselle led throughout to defeat Thermosphere (Exosphere) by a long head with a length and three-quarters back to Miss Canada (Exceed And Excel).

The Princess Series is an initiative whereby the breeding operation will offer the breeder of the winner from each of the four races a free service to one of its leading stallions and Snowden confirmed after the race Dame Giselle will now head to the second leg of the series - the Furious Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m).

“It wasn’t our intention to sort of be that far forward,” co-trainer Paul Snowden said.

“Obviously there was a lot of speed drawn inside us but she jumped as well as she did and Tommy had a nice run in front.

“She has a good campaign in front of her and she’s not screwed right down now.

“Just that easy section she was afforded mid-race certainly helped.

“Class comes to the top.”

Following the Furious Stakes the filly will head to the Tea Rose Stakes (Gr 2 , 1400m) a fortnight later before having a crack at the final leg of the series - the Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) on October 3.

Purchased by Go Bloodstock for $500,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Treen and Royston Murphy’s Sledmere Stud, the filly is out of dual Group 2 winner Ballet Society (Stravinsky), making her a three-quarter-sister to Listed winner Steal My Kisses.

Ballet Society herself is a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Cent Home (Lord Ballina) and Group 2 winner Studebaker (Lord Ballina).

Ballet Society produced a colt Coolmore’s champion first-season sire Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) last season, but most recently missed to I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit).

I Am Invincible is one of 56 stakes winners for the Yarraman Park-based sire for a fee of $209,000 (inc GST) in 2020.
