So You Think gelding impresses at Kensington.
Co-trainers Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou look to have a nice prospect to go to war with this season as Game Theory (3 g So You Think - Lofiel by Northern Meteor) showed his class in the Casino Prince at Vinery Maiden Handicap (1300m) at Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday.
The son of Coolmore Stud-based sire So You Think (High Chaparral) finished with a flourish to beat Cadenabbia (Redoute's Choice) by a neck, while Hot Spring Gold (Written Tycoon) was another length and a half further away in third.
Ryan was pleased with the performance, but thinks the gelding will improve the further he goes.
"He's a nice horse that will get better over ground, I think he should get 2000 metres or more," said Ryan.
"He's been a work in progress, but is starting to come into his own now.
"I'll talk to his owners Bennelong Bloodstock about where we go from here, but for a horse like him he might be better off in work than in the paddock at this time of year."
Bred by Bennelong Bloodstock, the three-year-old gelding is the first winner out of the six-time winning Northern Meteor (Encosta De Lago) mare Lofiel.
The gelding's third dam is Group 1-winning mare Red Express (Sovereign Red), the dam of prolific Group 1 winner Dane Ripper (Danehill).
In 2018 Lofiel produced a colt by Vinery Stud-based sire All Too Hard (Casino Prince), before foaling a filly by Arrowfield Stud shuttler Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) and she was not served last season.
So You Think will stand the upcoming breeding season for a fee of $38,500 (inc GST).
