Aquis Farm look to have another promising colt in the stable in the form of Cadenabbia (3 c Redoute's Choice - Griante by Good Journey) who shed his maiden status at the second attempt when winning over 1550 metres at Canterbury on Saturday.

Owned in a partnership which includes Kia Ora Stud, whom Aquis have recently sold dual Group 3-winning colt Prague (Redoute’s Choice) and a share in Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Farnan (Not A Single Doubt) to, the Chris Waller-trained colt came into the race having run second on debut on August 29 and he went one better when scoring a half a length victory over Wild Irish (No Nay Never). Let Me Think (So You Think) finished another half a length back in third.

“He has always shown us ability and it was good to get today’s win out of the way,” Waller said.

“We can start plotting towards better races, probably in the autumn, but I think he might get a chance in a Listed race at some stage through this prep as well.”

Waller nominated the Carbine Club Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) at Flemington on October 31 as a possible target for the son of Redoute’s Choice (Danehill).

A NZ$800,000 purchase for Aquis Farm and James Bester at Book 1 of the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka National Yearling Sale from the Cambridge Stud draft, the colt is out of 2016 Galaxy (Gr 1, 1100m) winner Griante (Good Journey).

Griante herself is a daughter of Grand Strategy (Strategic), a half-sister to Group 1 winner Grand Journey (Good Journey) and stakes winner Proliferate (More Than Ready).

Further back this is the same family as Tesio Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) winner Joy Of Flight (Flying Spur) and Listed scorer Landing (More Than Ready).

In 2019 Griante produced a filly by Coolmore Stud-based stallion Pierro (Lonhro), while this year she delivered a colt by Arrowfield Stud-based sire Dundeel (High Chaparral).
