Team Freedman landed the VRC Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) with Warning (Declaration Of War) last season and they look to have unearthed another contender for the Group 1 on October 31 in Ain'tnodeeldun (3 c Dundeel - Ain'tnofallenstar by Starcraft), who shed his maiden tag at the fifth time of asking in the Turnbull Toyota Maiden Plate (1615m) at Sale on Thursday.

The son of Arrowfield Stud-based sire Dundeel (High Chaparral) could not have been more impressive, skipping away in the final stages to most an ultra easy five length victory over Perennial (Per Incanto), while Willetts (Shocking) was another length and a quarter away in third.

Warning finished fourth in the the 2019 edition of the race, before going on to clinch Derby glory and Freedman Racing's racing manager Brad Taylor said the colt would be set on a similar path.

"We brought last year's Derby winner to this race last year and he couldn't get the job done, but this guy is on a similar path," Taylor said.

"He's always been a colt that's shown us a really good amount of ability and it's good to see him get the maiden out of the way. It's a big relief to see them come out and do that.

"You've got to keep the work up to him, so we still think there's plenty of improvement to come and the way he relaxed there and the way he hit the line, when he gets up to 2000 metres and hopefully a Derby trip, we'll see the best of him.”

The colt was a $240,000 purchase for his trainers and Julian Blaxland’s Blue Sky Bloodstock at the 2019 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft and he is the second winner out of dual Listed scorer Ain'tnofallenstar (Starcraft).

Ain'tnofallenstar herself is out fellow Listed winner and Group 1-placed mare Ain’t Seen Nothing (Nothin' Leica Dane), who also produced Group 3 scorer Bachman (All American), Singapore champion Stepitup (Hussonet) and the dam of 2019 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (Gr 3, 1200m) winner Stronger (Not A Single Doubt).

In 2019 Ain'tnofallenstar produced a colt by Arrowfield’s late stallion Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) and she was covered again by Dundeel last season.

Dundeel stands at Arrowfield Stud for a fee of $66,000 (inc GST).
