The Irish-bred Al Galayel (6 g ex Glympse by Spectrum) continued in his rich vein of form on Friday when chalking up his first win at stakes level in the JRA Cup (Gr 3, 2040m) at The Valley and in the process became stakes winner number 37 for the often underrated stallion former Coolmore Stud shuttler Zoffany (Dansili).

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained six-year-old gelding came into the race off the back of two victories including on his last start when beating subsequent Foundation Cup (Gr 3, 2000m) winner Orderofthegarter (Galileo) over 2000 metres at Caulfield.

The gelding looked the winner from a long way out, gliding off the turn to beat Plein Ciel (Mamool) by two and a quarter lengths, while Levendi (Pierro) was the same distance away in third.

The gelding was purchased by Stauffenberg Bloodstock Services for 85,000gns at the 2014 Tattersalls December Foals Sale, before making 200,000gns when purchased by Charlie Gordon-Watson and Al Shaqab Racing at Book 1 of the 2015 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and was sent into training with Luca Cumani, for whom he won twice.

Al Galayel is out of unplaced Spectrum (Rainbow Quest) mare Glympse, making him a half-brother to Supercharged (Iffraaj), who in turn produced Listed winner Encapsulation (Zoffany).

Glympse herself is out of multiple Listed scorer Seasonal Pickup (The Minstrel), who is the grandam of multiple Group 1-winning Hong Kong Champion Designs On Rome (Holy Roman Emperor), Grade 2 scorer Simple Exchange (Danehill), dual Group 3 winner Sights On Gold (Indian Ridge) and two-time scorer Romantic Venture (Indian Ridge).

Romantic Venture herself is the dam of dual Group 1 winner Romanised (Holy Roman Emperor), Group 3 scorer Rock Of Romance (Rock of Gibraltar) and Listed winner Fictional Account (Stravinsky).

The 2011 Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) winner Rekindled Interest (Redoute’s Choice) and Alabama Express (Redoute’s Choice), who landed last season’s CF Orr Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) and now stands at YuLong, also feature on the pedigree.

Zoffany shuttled to Australia for four seasons and his progeny is headed by three Group 1 winners. The stallion now stands exclusively at Coolmore’s Irish base where his fee in 2020 was advertised as €22,500.
