Rosemont Stud-based Shamus Award (Sntizel) was handed his eighth stakes winner on Friday as his Leon and Troy Corstens-trained daughter Swats That (3 f ex Is It A Mosquito by Bel Esprit) sprinted away with the Scarborough Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at The Valley.

Last seen finished second behind September Run (Exceed And Excel) - who was a late scratching in Friday night’s Group 3 - in the Cap d'Antibes Stakes (Listed, 1100m) on September 12 and she was able to go one better on Friday, beating Highly Discreet (Street Boss) by an easy two lengths, while Dirty Thoughts (So You Think) was another nose away in third.

The co-trainers said the filly would now be aimed at the Coolmore Stud Stakes (registered as Ascot Vale Stakes) (Gr 1, 1200m) at Flemington on October 31.

The filly is one of two winners out of unraced Bel Esprit (Royal Academy) mare Is It a Mosquito, who is herself a daughter of Listed-placed Danzig (Northern Dancer) mare Yes I Will.

Meanwhile the filly’s third dam is multiple Group 1-winning mare and good producer Let’s Elope (Nassipour), who is the dam of six winners, headed by Group 2-winning duo Outback Joe (Elvstroem) and Ustinov (Seeking The Gold), while she is also the grandam of Let’s Make Adeal (Red Ransom).

In 2018 Is It A Mosquito produced a sister to Swats Away, before foaling a filly by Swettenham Stud-based sire Trust In A Gust (Keep The Faith) and she has most recently been covered by Spendthirft Farm-based sire Jimmy Creed (Distorted Humor).

Shamus Award’s progeny is headed by Group 1 winner Mr Quickie and he stands at Rosemont Stud for a fee of $19,800 (inc GST).
