Ghostwriter (I Am Invincible) - who was a $975,000 purchase for Aquis Farm at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale earlier in the year - posted an impressive victory in his first barrier trial over 742 metres at Randwick on Friday.

Trained by Annabel Neasham, the colt was quick to leave the gates and sent straight to the front by James McDonald. After showing a touch of greenness when racing round the bend, the colt galloped on strongly all the way to the line to beat Lease (Choisir) by half a length in a time of 44.50 seconds. Hardware Lane (Scissor Kick) came home strongly another nose away in third.

Ghostwriter is the fourth foal out of winning Street Cry (Machiavellian) mare Heavenly Sound, who was purchased for 33,000gns by Rosemont Stud’s Anthony Mithen at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale in 2016.

Further afield the mare is from the same family as multiple Group 1 winner and successful sire High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells), Group 2 winner Black Bear Island (Sadler’s Wells) and Listed winners Casterton (Fastnet Rock) and Smuggler’s Cove (Fastnet Rock) as well as dual Group 1 winner Fancy Blue (Deep Impact). Meanwhile, Moonee Valley Gold Cup (Gr 2, 2500m) winner Hunting Horn (Camelot) also appears on the page.

The other two-year-old heat of the day was won by the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Emerald Bay (Not A Single Doubt).

The filly was alert out of the gates and was urged to the front by Tim Clark and had to be kept up to his work to stave off the challenge of the Annabel Neasham-trained Pippa Charlotte (Not A Single Doubt) - who is a three-quarter sister to last seasons star filly Away Game (Snitzel) - eventually beating her two and three-quarter lengths.

Emerald Bay was purchased by Segenhoe Stud for $130,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale before being bought by Sun Bloodstock for $120,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

The filly is out of three-time winning O’Reilly (Last Tycoon) mare Drinks All Round, making a sister to stablemate Shout The Bar, who landed last season’s Vinery Stud Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m).

Further back this is the same family as three-time Group 2 winner Satinka (Stravinsky) and dual Group 1 winner Rangirangdoo (Pentire).
