The Matt Cumani-trained Future Score (6 g ex Theola by Kalanisi) took out Sunday's Cranbourne Cup (Listed, 2050m) and in doing so provided the late Darley stallion Cape Cross with his 121st stakes winner.

Under Fred Kersley, the OTI Racing-owned gelding beat Odeon (Zacinto) by a length and three quarters with Dr Drill (Dansili) in third.

"We had aimed to go into the race third-up but it ended up being second-up, but he came here in terrific order and I think he'll improve again next start," said Cumani.

"He's only small, but he's a real trier."

The gelding will head towards the Lexus (Gr 3, 2500m) and still holds a nomination for the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m).

"Obviously the dream is to sneak into the Melbourne Cup, but let's hope we can win the Lexus first," he said.

Future Score finished second in last season's Lord Stakes (Listed, 1700m) and has now won six of his 17 starts and placed on another four occasions. He is the only stakes winner and one of three winners out of winning mare Theola (Kalanisi) who is a half-sister to Group 2 performer Orgilgo Bay (Lawman).

Darley sire Cape Cross died in April 2017.
