A colt from the first southern hemisphere crop of Coolmore Stud shuttler American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile) was impressive when winning his 900 metre trial at Rosehill on Friday.

The Coolmore-owned and Chris Waller-trained two-year-old was slow out the barriers, but was quick to recover, racing in second. As the field entered the straight Head Of State glided into the lead to post a quarter length victory over Conexy (Nicconi) in a time of 55.39 seconds.

Head Of State is out of the unraced Danehill Dancer (Danehill) mare Derelique, making him a half-brother to 2017 Hobartville Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) winner Man From Uncle (Uncle Mo).

Further back, the colt’s third dam is Subterfuge (Machiavellian), who in turn produced dual Group 2 winner Shania Dane (Danehill) and Listed-winning pair Scintillation (Danehill) and Risk Aversion (Encosta De Lago) and she is also the grandam of Listed winners Northwest Passage (So You Think), Order Of The Sun (Encosta De Lago), Beauty (Smart Missile) and Get To Work (Snippets). The colt also hails from the same family as Group 1 winner and Summer Passage (Snitzel).

In the next heat at Rosehill, Trifaccia (I Am Invincible) responded well to pressure when taking out her 900 metre trial.

The Godolphin-raced daughter of I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) was away smartly and had to be urged along in the final 100 metres to stave off the the advances of Chitabe - who is by Haunui Farm shuttler Belardo (Lope De Vega) - eventually beating him by a head in a time of 56.01 seconds.

The filly is out of Listed-winning Commands mare Mascareri, who has produced one winner from two foals to race.

Mascareri herself is a sister to 2012 Myer Classic (registered as Empire Rose Stakes) (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Appearance.
