How many years have you been bringing a draft to this sale for?
I've been consigning to the sale for the last five or so years.

Who are your most successful sale graduates?
I've had a couple of good trading results. I pinhooked Montefilia - who I bought as a foal. She's now won a couple of Group 1s (Flight Stakes and Spring Champion Stakes this month). I also bought Santa Ana Lane as a foal. He's run in the Everest for the last few years (finishing second in 2019).

Is there anything in particular that you look for in a yearling that you are buying to breeze?
The breeze ups are pretty much geared towards the Hong Kong market. I'm just looking for an athletic type horse that vets out for Hong Kong - that's the market that we're heading for.

How do you think your draft this year compares to previous years?
It's probably the best draft we've had. I know that everyone says that about their draft each year, but Troy Corstens has done all the work says that it's the best draft that we've had ever. I said; 'that's great as there are no buyers here'. This draft is really good though - we've spent a fair amount on yearlings, buying yearlings for up to $160,000 and we've bought some really nice horses.

Of your 2020 draft which are your standouts?
We've got a colt (Headwater - Future Gains by Red Ransom) that we've left at home - he's still selling in abstentia. He's won two jump outs and he's qualified for the Inglis Banner and is catalogued as Lot 7. He won an 800 metre jump out and goes really nicely and is a ready made two-year-old.

Of the ones that are here, the standout would be the Dundeel colt, Lot 139, his three-year-old brother is called Hit The Shot. He's probably the most natural racehorse. He's got a beautiful action and is very well balanced and out of a Redoute's mare. He's probably the standout.

How do you think the sale will be affected by the current travel situation?
With COVID Asian buyers can't come we'll be relying on the local market and agents to inspect the horses and then we'll be relying on the the digital market place to sell the horses.

Have you seen any changes in the way breeze up horses are prepared in Australia over the past few years?
I think they are presenting nicer horses. The vendors have become more professional and are targeting the market. I think there are better quality horses here now.
