The Michelle Payne-trained Argus (3 c Press Statement - Dinicanbern by Bernardini) shed his maiden status at the seventh time of asking when he landed the Highview Accounting Maiden Plate (1500m) at Mornington and in the process handed his Capitalist (Written Tycoon) half-sister a valuable update before she goes under the hammer at the Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs In Training Sale next month.

The three-year-old colt surged clear in the final stages to beat Midnight Rambler (Love Conquers All) by a length and a quarter and Bobsled (Snitzel) was another head away in third.

Purchased by his owners First Light Racing, his trainer and Paul Willetts Bloodstock for $75,000  at the 2019 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale from the Blue Gum Farm draft, the colt is out of the winning Bernardini (A.P Indy) mare Dinicanbern.

Dinicanbern herself is a half-sister to South African Grade 2 winner Tamaanee (Teofilo), while further back this is the same family as Group 3 winner and now successful Yarraman Park-based sire I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit).

The filly by Capitalist was purchased for $28,000 by Tweed Valley Equine Centre at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale and will be offered as Lot 132 by Grandview at the Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs In Training Sale which takes place on November 10.

Dinicanbern’s 2019 colt by Coolmore Stud’s Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) was purchased by Bevan Smith Bloodstock for $70,000 at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale earlier this year, while this season she produced a colt by Darley’s Kermadec (Teofilo) and was covered by Aquis Stud based sire Invader (Snitzel) in September.

Second season sire Press Statement (Hinchinbrook) has sired 12 winners in total and he stands at Vinery Stud in the Hunter Valley for a fee of $13,750 (inc GST). The stallion has one two-year-old catalogued at Tuesday’s Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale - a colt offered by Blake Ryan Racing who will go through the ring as Lot 143
