The Kris Lees-trained and Lib Petagna-raced Sian (3 g Pride Of Dubai - Five Star Belle by General Nediym) broke his maiden at the fourth attempt when he took out the Lander Toyota Ladies Day Maiden Plate (1300m) at Hawkesbury on Thursday.

The son of Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) stayed on strongly to beat Alvin The Bold (Al Maher) by half a length, while Don’t Recall (Star Witness) was another neck away in third.

Purchased by Bruce Perry for $200,000 at the 2019 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of his breeder, Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm, the gelding is the second winner out of four time-winning General Nediym (Nediym) mare Five Star Belle, who was purchased by Peake Racing for $5,000 via the Inglis Digital August Sale earlier this year.

Five Star Belle herself is a half-sister to 1994 BRC Sires' Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) winner Aragen (Rory’s Jester) and the dam of Listed winner Cavallo Pazzo (Not A Single Doubt).

The gelding’s third dam, Northern Willow (Northern Dancer), produced Grade 2 scorer L’Alezane (Dr Fager) and Listed winner May Combination (Right Combination).

Further afield this is the same family as Brazlian Grade 3 winner Strike Willow (Johnny's Prospect) and Sassagoula Springs (Grade Reward), who won at the top-level in Brazil.

Five Star Belle’s colt by Sebring (More Than Ready) was purchased by Patrick Keane Racing for $65,000 at the 2020 Inglis Melbourne Gold Yearling Sale, while her weanling colt by Darley shuttler Frosted (Tapit) was snapped up by TH Bloodstock for $18,000 at the Inglis Sydney Weanling Sale earlier this year.

Last season’s champion first season sire Pride Of Dubai - who shuttled to Europe for three seasons - has made a great start with his northern hemisphere crop, siring 11 winners, headed by four stakes winners, while in Australia he is sitting at the head of second season sires table by number of winners and second behind Kermadec (Teofilo) by earnings. The son of Street Cry (Machiavellian) is standing at Coolmore Stud for a fee of $38,500 (inc GST).
