Friday’s Randwick barrier trials saw four juvenile heats and two of those produced winners by first season sires Xtravagant (Pentire) and Capitalist.

Heat nine saw the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Wilsons Promo (2 c ex Emphatically by Not A Single Doubt) score a three quarter length victory over Devil’s Throat (Snitzel). Having his second trial, the colt jumped well and then went to the lead and he maintained his position to the line to score in a time of 44.24 seconds for the 735 metres.

The colt was bought from the draft of his breeder Newhaven Park by Ciaron Maher Racing for $120,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January. He is the first foal out of the dual Group 3 placed Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) mare Emphaticallywho is a half-sister to Listed winner Tudor (Strategic) being out of Skidoodle (Encosta De Lago).

Newhaven Park’s Xtravagant has had one runner to date.

Two heats later, the Damien Lane-trained Snowdrop (2 f ex Shamrock Slipper by Jet Spur) jumped well and showed good natural pace to take the lead. She maintained a strong run to the line to score a three quarter length victory over All Girls (Not A Single Doubt).

Snowdrop was a $120,000 purchase from Willow Park Stud by Minks Music Equine Park and her trainer at Gold Coast in January. She is out of the winning Jet Spur (Flying Spur) mare Shamrock Slipper who is a half-sister to Canberra Guineas (Listed, 1400m) winner Interspersed (Sebring) and from the family of Newmarket Handicap (Gr 1, 1200m) winner and sire Wanted (Fastnet Rock).

The Newgate Farm-based Capitalist has had one winner so far this season in Captivant.

The remaining two juvenile heats were won by the James Cummings-trained Godolphin-bred Athelric (2 c Exceed And Excel - Ida by Lonhro) in heat eight whilst the Bjorn Baker-trained Hide Your Heart (2 f Sebring - Cautious by Lonhro) who scored a narrow victory over Godolphin’s Sliders (Street Boss) in heat ten.
