The resurgence of Written Tycoon (Iglesia) gathered even more pace on Tuesday as he was handed a stakes double which saw his total stakes winners tally swell to 39.

The stakes double was kicked off by his son Finance Tycoon (2 c ex Darook Park by Darci Brahma), who took out the Maribyrnong Plate (Gr 3, 1000m) at Flemington.

Trained by Lindsay Park, the two-year-old colt was last seen finishing second on debut in the Darley Spring 2YO Preview (900m) at Flemington, and today the son of Written Tycoon (Iglesia) came out on top of a close finish to beat last-start Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (Listed, 1000m) winner Ingratiating (Frosted) by a head, while Marine One (Capitalist) was another three lengths away in third.

Luke Nolen rode the colt to victory in the Group 3 and he was unshipped from Finance Tycoon after his post-race interview and he told http://Racing.com: "I'm still asleep from this morning," Nolen said after he was dumped by Finance Tycoon.

"It hasn't been my week. I've got the three (incidents), everything's happened to me, hopefully that was the last one and I'm done.

"He's taken really nice improvement from his first run here. He took a lot away from the experience.

"I think he's got further improvement to come."

Purchased by McKeever Bloodstock for $150,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Eureka Stud draft, the colt is the only winner out of winning Darci Brahma (Danehill) mare Darook Park who was purchased by Boom Racing Thoroughbreds for $135,000 at the 2018 Inglis Great Southern Weanling and Bloodstock Sale carrying the colt in utero.

Darook Park herself is out of Silk Ending (End Sweep) who is herself a half-sister to the dam of 2013 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic (Gr 2, 1600m) winner Gypsy Diamond (Not A Single Doubt).

Further back this is the same family as this year's Hobart Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) winner Toorak Affair (Toorak Toff).

In 2019 Darook Park produced a colt by Eureka Stud's Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo), while this season she foaled a colt by his barnmate Encryption (Lonhro).

Johnny McKeever told Racing & Sports, that while he was impressed with Finance Tycoon at the sales, he was not expecting him to be an early two-year-old.

"When I saw Finance Tycoon as a yearling in the Eureka Stud draft at Magic Millions I thought he looked like a big raw athlete, but I never thought he'd be an early two-year-old. He didn't look that type," McKeever said.

"However I've come to understand and respect Written Tycoon. He's an amazing stallion who can get superior runners in all shapes and sizes. He fitted my budget well. But I was delighted to get him for $150,000. I'd thought he'd be more than that. It's a thrill. Especially off people who've been so helpful to me - the McAlpine family of Eureka Stud."

Later on in the afternoon at Flemington, the Arrowfield Stud sire was handed his second stakes winner when his Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained daughter Rich Hips (4 m ex She's Curvaceous by Flying Spur) landed the Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m).

Rich Hips was purchased by First Light Racing, Busuttin Racing and Paul Willetts for $130,000 at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Woodside Park Stud and is the third foal to race out of winning mare She's Curvaceous (Flying Spur), making her a half-sister to VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) fourth Hipster Girl (Nicconi).

Her second dam is the stakes-placed Vital Curve (McGinty), who also produced Matamata Breeders' Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) winner Velasco (Flying Spur).

Velasco herself is the dam of Group 3 sinner Debellatio (Smart Missile) and Listed scorer Devoirs (Dehere), who produced Inglis Millennium (RL, 1100m) winner Rulership (I Am Invincible) and Blue Diamond Preview (Gr 3, 1000m) runner-up Jedastar (I Am Invincible).

She's Curvaceous has a yearling colt by Tosen Stardom (Deep Impact) and she produced a filly foal by Woodside Park Stud-based sire Rich Enuff (Written Tycoon) this year.

Arrowfield Stud’s John Messara said he expects Written Tycoon’s success to keep going strong in the coming years.

“It’s been a terrific Cup Day for Arrowfield stallions, with four black type victories from ten races at Flemington: two new stakeswinners for Written Tycoon, a really exciting colt for Dundeel and Exhilarates so impressive for Snitzel,” said Messara.

“Written Tycoon’s exceptional results this Spring have made his season with us a win-win for everyone involved with him. The superb recent books he’s served in Victoria and now in the Hunter Valley give him a very solid base for plenty more commercial and racetrack success in the coming years.”

Written Tycoon - who was relocated to Arrowfield Stud from Woodside Park Stud - has made an extraordinary start to the season now siring eight individual stakes winners, including three top-flight scorers; Ole Kirk, Odeum and Pippie and he is standing for a fee of $77,000 (inc GST).
