The Phillip Stokes-trained Ancestry (4 g ex Maltese by Tale Of The Cat) continued his excellent form as he etched a much deserved stakes race on to his CV when he took out the Century Stakes (Listed, 1000m) at Flemington and in the process became the first stakes winner Kooringal Stud based sire The Brothers War (War Front).

The four-year-old gelding came into the race off the back of a three-race unbeaten record this season and he was able to keep that winning streak alive when beating Garner (Barbados) by a length and a quarter, while Villami (Foxwedge) was another neck away in third.

Stokes said the gelding would now head for a spell.

"He just ticked over another (task)," said Stokes. "The straight is not a problem and geez he's a fast horse and he's going great.

"He's a strong horse at home and credit to my team back at Pakenham, he's not the easiest horse to ride. Young Jordan and Jack have done a good job.

"He'll go to the paddock now."

Purchased by Dalziel Racing and Peter Moody Racing for $80,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Kooringal Stud draft, the gelding is out of three time-winning Tale Of The Cat (Storm Cat) mare Maltese making him a half-brother to 2017 Skyline Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner Diamond Tathagata (Hinchinbrook).

Matlese herself is a daughter of Listed winner Marwell Lady (Lord Seymour), making her a half-sister to Jestarella Boy (Rory's Jester) and stakes-placed duo Jolly's Folly (Bluebird) and La Bird (Bluebird).

In 2017 Maltese produced a brother to Ancestry - he is named Vasbert - and he was purchased by Peter Diamond and Matt Cumani for $60,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and he is unraced. The next season the mare produced a filly by Duporth (Red Ransom) and after missing to The Brothers War in 2019, the mare produced a colt by his barnmate Prized Icon (More Than Ready) and has been covered by the same stallion this season.

The Brothers War's fee is available on application.
