The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Nu Jiang (3 g ex Prison Rules by Onemorenomore) got his name on the scoresheet at third attempt when he broke his maiden over 1600 metres at Goulburn on Wednesday.

Having finished fourth on his two previous starts, the son of Vinery Stud-based second-season sire Headwater (Exceed And Excel) pulled clear to post a length victory over Legal Challenge (Star Witness), while Messina Magic (Testa Rossa) was another length and three-quarters further back in third.

Nu Jiang was purchased by David Raphael and Symphony Lodge for $11,000 at the 2019 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, before being snapped up by Gu Tao for $200,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YO in Training Sale later that same year.

The three-year-old gelding is out of unraced mare Prison Rules (Onemorenomore) and she was purchased by Foote Street Investments for $25,000 at the Inglis Sydney Weanling and Broodmare Sale in 2017 when carrying the gelding in utero and she has since been sold again, when making $1,500 at the same sale in 2018.

Prison Rules herself is a daughter of 2010 Let's Elope Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) winner No Evidence Needed (Shamardal), while this is also the same family as Listed winner and Group 2-placed Related (Elusive Quality).

Prison Rules’ 2018 filly by Eurozone (Northern Meteor) was purchased by Vanessa Medhurst for $2,000 at the 2020 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

Headwater is sitting second behind Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) in Australia’s leading second-season sire table by number of winners and he is standing at Vinery Stud for a fee of $13,750 (inc GST).
