How many years have you been bringing a draft to this sale for?
This is our second year of doing the breeze-ups although the first year under the name Furlong Bloodstock.

Who are your most successful graduates to date?
We only did two last year. A Deep Field filly that has won a trial at the Gold Coast and a Deep Field colt that went to Singapore.

Is there anything in particular that you look for in a yearling when you are buying to breeze?
There are a few things we look for in buying a yearling to breeze up. I like them to be correct with a good walk and look as though they want to do the job. Often we buy from the National Sale and only have three months to get them to the breeze ups so they have to be tough enough to cop what we are about to throw at them.

How does your draft this year compare to your 2019 draft?
We have 11 in our draft this year. They’re all horses with good attitudes that look as though they want to run.

Of your 2020 draft which are your standouts?
We have a strong Choisir gelding (Lot 57) that is very forward and I think will be a very nice horse. Also a very early Star Witness gelding (Lot 210) and a nice big Zoustar gelding (Lot 103) from Sunlights family.  We have a couple of nice El Roca’s (Lots 74, 142 and 209). We sold an El Roca to Hong Kong in January that had its first start on Wednesday and won impressively called Lucky Patch (Paleontologist)

How do you think the sale will be affected by the current travel / COVID situation?
Hopefully the sale won’t be too affected by coronavirus obviously there won’t be as many people physically at the sale, but all the vendors have done a great job at uploading a lot of photos and videos of their drafts so I think the good horses will still sell well. There might be some bargains at that middle price range.

Have you seen any changes to the way that breeze up horses are prepared in Australia over the past few years?
I think in the last few years we are seeing more horses trial and have jump outs before the sale which is probably big for the Asian market.
