Miss Hipstar shines at Doomben
Vinery Stud-based first-season sire Star Turn (Star Witness) was handed his first winner when his Kelly Schweida-trained daughter Miss Hipstar (2 f ex Single Style by Not A Single Doubt) made a winning debut over 1110 metres at Doomben on Saturday.
Sent straight to the front by Larry Cassidy, Miss Hipstar stayed on strongly to beat Berdini's Girl - who is by fellow first-season sire Odyssey Moon (Snitzel) - by half a length in second. Alert And Ready - who is by Eureka Stud’s first-crop sire Defcon (Choisir) - was a further length and a half further afield in third.
Purchased by her trainer for $150,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale earlier this year, the filly is out of Listed-winning Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) mare Single Style, making her a half-sister to stakes-placed Still Single (More Than Ready), who is in turn a three-quarter-sister to Group 3 Doubtful Jack (Not A Single Doubt).
The filly’s fourth dam is Regal Fantasy (Sir Tristram) and she produced Group 3 winner Honour Code (Marscay), while she is she grandam of Group 3 scorer Razor Blade (Blazing Sword), who in turn produced multiple Group 1 winner Flamberge (Exceed And Excel), Group 2 winner Sunburnt Lad (Scenic), Group 3 scorer Durendal (Medaglia D’Oro) as well as Listed winner Curtana (Exceed And Excel).
Razor Blade is also the grandam of Group 2 winner Sword Of Light (New Approach) and Listed scorer Sword Of Justice (Medaglia d’Oro).
Last season Single Style foaled a filly by former Vinery Stud shuttler More Than Ready (Southern Halo) and has most recently produced a filly by Widden Stud-based sire Zoustar (Northern Meteor).
Star Turn is standing at Vinery Stud for a reduced fee of $16,500 (inc GST), having stood the 2019 season for a fee of $22,000 (inc GST) and he has four lots set go through the ring at Tuesday’s Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs In Training Sale.
