The Chris Waller-trained Black On Gold (7 g ex Fools Gold by Commands) secured a well-deserved victory at stakes level when he took out the Ladies Day Cup (Listed, 1600m) at Hawkesbury on Wednesday and in the process handed late Widden Stud-based sire Sebring (More Than Ready) with his 64th stakes winner.

The seven-year-old gelding was having his 44th career start and he surged clear to beat Archedemus (Lope De Vega) by three-quarters of a length, while Savacool (Savabeel) was another length and a quarter away in third.

“He got a cozy run and was produced at the right time by Brenton,” said Waller’s racing manager Charlie Duckworth.

“He’s a horse that plenty of people can often question how much he puts in so saving that ground up the inside was probably crucial to him.

“He got there doing no work at all and then let down with a strong sprint so there’s no reason why he can’t head on through to the Magic Millions like he did last year.”

The gelding was purchased by B K Racing and Breeding for $200,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Bylong Park Thoroughbreds draft and he is one of three winners out of unraced Commands (Danehill) mare Fools Gold.

Fools Gold is herself out of Listed winner Follow Gold (Export Price), making her a half-sister to Driefontein (Fastnet Rock), who won the Robert Sangster Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) in 2014.

Follow Gold herself is a sister to Listed scorer Export Gold, who in turn produced Listed-winning pair Dubawi Gold (Dubawi) and Forest Gold (Charnwood Forest).

Fools Gold’s filly by Zoustar (Northern Meteor) was purchased by B K Racing at this year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $300,000 and she is now called Black on Beauty and is still unraced. Last year the mare produced a sister to Aimee’s Jewel and has most recently been covered by Aquis Farm-based sire Pierata (Pierro).

Sebring's progeny is headed by six Group 1 winners, including multiple Group 1 winners Dissident and Criterion and he died last year.
