Two fillies by first-season sires landed their juvenile heats at Rosehill Gardens on Thursday as Mascherata, who is by Waikato Stud-based Tivaci (High Chaparral), and Ruby Kisses - a daughter of Newgate Farm-based Flying Artie (Artie Schiller) - shone in their respective 900 metre heats.

The John O’Shea-trained Mascherata jumped smartly from the barriers under Rachel King and after racing on the rail, she kicked smartly off the bend to score a three-quarter length victory over Crystal's Legacy (Dissident) in a time of 54.90 seconds.

The filly was picked up by her trainer for NZ$150,000 at Book 1 of the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka National Yearling Sale from the Waikato Stud draft and she is out of four time-winning Savabeel (Zabeel) mare Fancy Dress, who is herself a half-sister to Group 2 winner Sports Illustrated.

Further back this filly hails from the same family as multiple Group 1 winner and successful sire Starcraft (Soviet Star) and Listed winner Forum Floozie (Danasinga), who in turn produced fellow Listed scorer Lawspeaker (Singspiel).

In the next heat of the morning, the Gary and John Moore-trained Ruby Kisses raced keenly in the early stages of the 900 metre heat, but after settling well in fourth she did her best work late to come away with quarter length victory over Robodira (Husson), stopping the clock at 55.06 seconds.

Ruby Kisses was purchased by Equi-Com Syndications for $70,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale earlier this year from the draft of Newgate Farm and she is the second foal out of seven time-winning US-bred mare Kiss The Daddy (Scat Daddy), who was herself snapped up by SF Bloodstock for US$125,000 at the Fasig Tipton Fall Mixed Sale in 2015.

Further back this is the same family as Listed winner Taft Lil Queen (Irish Open), who in turn produced Grade 2 winner Kiss To Remember (Big Brown) and Listed winning-pair El Viento (El Corredor) and For Royalty (Not For Love) - the dam of Grade 1 winner Constellation (Bellamy Road).

Meanwhile, also on show in one of the two-year-old trials on Thursday morning was expensive colt Wizard Of Oz (Exceed And Excel).

The son of Exceed And Excel (Danehill) was quick away from the barriers and raced in second around the bend. As the field straightened up the colt took up the running to hit the line strongly a quarter of a length ahead of El Parmy (Snitzel) in a time of 55.80 seconds.

The Chris Waller-raced Coolmore Stud-owned colt was purchased by Tom Magnier for $1.1 million at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Milburn Creek and he is the first foal out of the unraced Frankel (Galileo) mare Dream In Colour, who purchased for 75,000gns by Howson and Houldsworth Bloodstock at the 2017 Tattersalls February Sale, before being bought by Peter Ford Thoroughbreds for $750,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale carrying the colt in utero.

The colt hails from the family of 2007 Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Forensics (Flying Spur) and Group 2 winner Derryn (Hinchinbrook).

The other two-year-old heat of the morning was taken out by the John Sergeant-trained Ready Availabull (Bull Point).
