The Annabel Neasham-trained Ruddock (3 g Written Tycoon- Nakaaya by Tiger Hill) scored his first victory on his fifth start as he broke his maiden over 1550 metres at Hawkesbury on Friday, proving his Warwick Farm-based trainer with her first her first metropolitan winner in New South Wales.

The Aquis Farm and Phoenix Thoroughbred-owned gelding started off life with Kris Lees, and was moved to Neasham at the beginning of his three-year-old career.

Having finished second on his first two starts for his new trainer, the gelding finally got his head in front as he surged clear to beat Mr Gee (All Too Hard) by three and a quarter lengths, while Kakariki (Frankel) was another half a length away in third.

The gelding was purchased by Aquis and Phoenix for $500,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling from the Vinery Stud draft and he is the fourth winner out of Nakaaya (Tiger Hill), who landed the Sunline Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Moonee Valley in 2011 and he is therefore a half-brother to 2018 VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) winner Aristia (Lonhro).

Further back the gelding hails from the same family as 2002 Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Royal Purler (Hector Protector) and Listed-winning pair Sir Amadi (Maizcay) and Mishani Warrior (Show A Heart).

In 2018 Nakaaya produced a filly by Newgate Farm-based first season sire Flying Artie (Artie Schiller) and she died in September.
