The Lindsay Park-trained Hindaam (3 f ex Bayrock by Fastnet Rock) added valuable black-type to her record when she landed the Twilight Glow Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Sandown-Hillside on Saturday and in so doing brought up stakes winner 105 for Waikato’s star stallion Savabeel (Zabeel).

The three-year-old filly came from the back and showed a good attitude to beat La Mexicana (I Am Invincible) by half a length, while Star Of Uma (I Am Invincible) was another length and three-quarters further away in third.

"She looked the winner from a long way from home,” said co-trainer Tom Dabernig. “It was really exciting to be able to get some black type in the family. She's well-related to Merchant Navy and it's a very big result. Shadwell will be pleased.

"She's done really well from her last win. Riding her quiet like that is the key to her, I think. It unlocks that good turn-of-foot she has at the end of her races. 'Stacky' has got a good affiliation with her and rode her beautifully. She ran accordingly for him.

"She's going to go to a nice grassy paddock, have a good spell and come back for the autumn. She might be a question mark out to a mile. She looked like she's going to win really easily today but ended up winning (by a shorter margin). She could be just a good 12 or 1400 metre horse but maybe we can get her further over time."

Bred by Windsor Park and purchased by Shadwell for $825,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Kitchwin Hills draft, the filly is out of Fastnet Rock (Danehill) mare Bayrock.

Bayrock is herself a daughter of Sweet Embrace Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) winner Legally Bay (Snippets), who is also the dam of dual Group 1 winner and now Coolmore Stud-based sire Merchant Navy (Fastnet Rock) and Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Jolie Bay (Fastnet Rock).

Legally Bay is a half-sister to Myer Classic (registered as Empire Rose Stakes) (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Bonaria (Redoute’s Choice) and Group 3 winner Time Out (Rory’s Jester), while she is also a half-sister to the dam of Group 3-winning pair Tessara (Medaglia d’Oro) and Montsegur (New Approach).

Bayrock’s two-year-old is now named Espionage, who was purchased by David Ellis for  NZ$875,000 at the 2020 New Zealand Bloodstock National Karaka Yearling Sale and this season she produced a sister to Hindaam.

Five-time champion sire Savabeel is standing at Waikato Stud for a fee of NZ$100,000 (plus GST).
