Coastwatch - a well-bred son of Coolmore Stud-based sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill) - won his first trial at Warwick Farm on Tuesday, while first-season sire Sooboog (Snitzel) was also represented by a trial winner at the track.

The Chris Waller-trained Coastwatch was slow out of the barriers in his 803 metre heat and was placed on the fence by Kathy O’Hara. After moving up to the leaders before the bend, the colt showed a good cruising speed to hit the line a nose in front of Converge (Frankel) - stopping the clock at 47.77 seconds.

Purchased by Waller’s bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster for $750,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale earlier this year from the Coolmore Stud draft, the colt is out of dual-winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) Bullion Mansion, making him a half brother to 2017 Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Mighty Boss (Not A Single Doubt).

Bullion Mansion herself is a daughter of 1998 Australasian Oaks (Gr 1, 2000m) winner La Volta (Laranto), making her a sister to Polska - the dam of Group 2-winning pair Seaburge (Sebring) and Catch A Fire (Sebring).

Meanwhile in an earlier heat of the morning, Kitchwin Hills-based sire Sooboog was handed a trial winner when the Tash Burleigh-trained Princess Spice landed the fillies two-year-old open trial over 803 metres.

The two-year-old showed a good early speed out of the barriers under Shaun Guymer and she came home impressively, hitting the line a head in front of Hide Your Heart (Sebring) in a time of 47.37 seconds.

The filly is out three time-winning Myboycharlie (Danetime) mare Princess Ailani and she is one of two winners out of unraced General Nediym (Nediym) mare Maji Maji.

Maji Maji herself is a daughter of Listed scorer Hitapotomoss (Twig Moss), while further back this is the same family as fellow Listed winner Hit It Star (Hit It Benny).

Sooboog has only had one runner to the track from his first crop as yet and he is covering his fourth book of mares at a fee of $13,200 (inc GST).
