Well-bred Zoustar gelding wins at Kyneton

The Ladies Man (4 g ex Zoustar - Zighy Bay by Tapit) broke maiden at the fourth attempt when the Lindsey Smith-trained gelding landed a race over 1469 metres at Kyneton on Tuesday. 

The son of Zoustar (Northern Meteor) pulled clear in the final stages to beat Billie De Lune (Puissance De Lune) by a length, while Whirlwind Romance (Toronado) was the same distance away in third. 

The Ladies Man was purchased by Darren Weir and Spicer Thoroughbreds for $220,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and he is out of placed Tapit (Pulpit) mare Zighy Bay, making him a half-brother to 2019 South Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) winner Qafila (Not A Single Doubt). 

Zighy Bay herself is out of stakes-placed Christies Treasure (Belong To Me), making her a half-sister to Japanese Grade 1 winner Mozu Superflare (Speightstown), while her three-quarter sister, Grade 3 winner Sacristy (Pulpit) produced Listed scorer Flor De La Mar (Tiznow). 

Further back this is the same family as Grade 2 scorer Valid Wager (Valid Appeal) and Listed scorer Copelan’s Bid Gal (Copelan) - the dam of Grade 1 winner Purge (Pulpit) and Listed scorer Namaste’s Wish (Pulpit). 

The Ladies Man also hails from the same family multiple Grade 1 winner Jersey Girl (Belong To Me), who in turn produced Grade 1 scorer Jersey Town (Speightstown). 

Zighy Bay’s 2018 filly by So You Think (High Chaparral) now named Six Senses was purchased by Belmont Bloodstock and Tony McEvoy for $280,000 at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Attunga Stud draft, while Attunga will offer a colt by I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) at next year’s edition of the Gold Coast Sale and he will be offered as Lot 7.
