Arrowfield Stud-based sire Written Tycoon (Iglesia) has enjoyed a stellar season so far and he added another winner to his tally when the Chris Waller-trained Tycoonist (3 g ex Doubtfilly by Not A Single Doubt) chalked up his first victory in the TAB Maiden Plate (1250m) at Canterbury on Friday.

The three-year-old gelding, who had been placed twice in five prior starts, pulled clear in the final stages to get the better of Jesse James (Reliable Man), eventually beating him by a decisive length and three-quarters. Ayemgee (Deep Field) was another nose away in third.

The gelding was purchased from the Newhaven Park draft by Jadeskye Racing and Brad Widdup for $750,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in 2019 and he is the second winner out of the Listed-winning Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) mare Doubtfilly, meaning he is bred on the same cross as Gimcrack Stakes (Gr 3, 1000m) winner Enthaar.

The gelding’s third dam is Andromaque (Woodman), who is herself a half-sister to the dam of Listed scorer Southern Invasion (Langfuhr), while further back this is the same family as Grade 3 scorer Memories Of Pam (Graustark).

In 2019 Doubtfilly produced a filly by Newhaven Park-based sire Xtravagant (Pentire), before foaling a colt by Rosemont Stud shuttler Starspangledbanner (Choisir) and she has most recently been covered by Coolmore Stud-based sire Merchant Navy (Fastnet Rock).

Written Tycoon is currently sitting at the head of Australian champion sires table by number of winners, while is sitting behind by the now penisoned Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) by earnings and he is covering his first book of mares at Arrowfield Stud for a fee of $77,000 (inc GST), having been based previously at Woodside Park Stud in Victoria.
