Having finished seventh in the Railway Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) last month, Truly Great (5 g ex Truly Special by Jeune) bounced back and added a coveted Group 1 race to his CV when he landed the Kingston Town Classic (Gr 1, 1800m) at Ascot on Saturday and in the process became elite level number five for Arrowfield Stud-based sire Dundeel (High Chaparral).

The Grant and Alana Williams-trained five-year-old gelding added a first stakes win to his record when he took out the RJ Peters Stakes (Gr 3, 1500m) last month and he regained the winning sequence when reversing the form with his stablemate Inspirational Girl (Reliable Man) - who won the Railway Stakes on her previous start - eventually beating her by a decisive two lengths. Dom To Shoot (Shooting To Win) was another length away in third.

Raced and bred by prolific Western Australian breeder Bob Peters, the gelding is out of three time-winning Jeune (Kalaglow) mare Truly Special, making him a half-brother to Group 3 scorer Special Alert (Not A Single Doubt).

Truly Special herself is a daughter of Listed winner Reigning Belle (Military Plume).

Truly Special has been mated exclusively to Dundeel, producing colts by the sire in 2016 and 2017, while in 2018 and 2020 she foaled a fillies by the son of High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells).

Truly Great joins Yourdeel, Atyaab, Castelvecchio and Super Seth Dundeel as the stallion’s other Group 1 winners and he stood at Arrowfield Stud for a fee of $66,000 (inc GST) in 2020.  He was joined the roster by his son Castelvecchio, who was offered to breeders at a fee of $33,000 (inc GST), while Super Seth covered his first book of mares at Waikato Stud in New Zealand.
