The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained Gleneagles (2 c ex Scarlet Billows by Street Boss) - who is by Newgate Farm’s first-season sire Capitalist (Written Tycoon) - showed his class when he won a 735 metre trial at Randwick on Tuesday.

The colt was not the quickest out of the barriers and after racing keenly on the rail, the colt showed a good turn of speed to beat Cochrane (Spirit Of Boom) by a quarter of a length, posting a time of 42.91 seconds.

Purchased by Wattle Bloodstock for $500,000 at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the B2B Thoroughbreds, Gleneagles is the first foal out of 2015 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) winner Scarlet Billows (Street Boss).

The colt’s third dam is Group 3 winner Smytzer’s Rivalry (Made Of Gold), while further back this is the same family Listed scorer Top Dance (Brilliant Invader) - the dam of fellow stakes scorer Dancing Sculptor (Rancho Ruler).

Newgate Farm-based first season sire Capitalist has sired one winner in Captivant, while his first crop also includes Forbes and Marine One and he has 48 lots catalogued at next year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

In two heats earlier, Four Moves Ahead (2 f Snitzel - Doulmera by Mr. Greeley) posted a professional trial as she landed her 735 metre heat.

The John Sargent-trained daughter of Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) was quick out of the barriers and sat two wide on the turn under Tommy Berry, before gliding to the front to beat Tillotson (Deep Field) by half a length, clocking a time of 42.70 seconds.

The filly was passed in for $280,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale after failing to make her $300,000 reserve when offered by Bhima Thoroughbreds and she is out of unraced mare Doulmera (Mr. Greeley), making her a half-sister to this year’s Angst Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) winner Emeralds (Sebring).

Doulmera herself is out of Group 3 scorer Daltaya (Anabaa), who also produced Group 1 scorer Dalkala (Giant’s Causeway).

Further back this is the same family as multiple Group 1-winning champions Daylami (Doyoun) and Dalakhani (Darshaan), as well as Group 3 scorer Dalghar (Anabaa) and Listed scorer Daymarti (Caerleon).

The filly also hails from the same family as Group 1 scorer Dolniya (Azamour) and Listed winner Dalwari (More Than Ready).

Meanwhile, the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Jet Pack (2 g Fastnet Rock - Volcada by Stravinsky) also posted an easy victory in his 735 metre trial.

The gelding was quickest to leave the barriers and was guided to the front by Tommy Berry and he did not see another runner, beating Charlemagne (Real Impact) in a time of 43.87 seconds.

The son of Fastnet Rock (Danehill) was purchased for $325,000 by China Horse Club, Newgate Bloodstock and Stonestreet at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft and he is out of stakes winner Volcada (Stravinsky), making him a brother to Group 3 winner Kaepernick.

While further back this is the same family as Spright (Hinchinbrook), who landed the Robert Sangster Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) in 2019.
