The Phillip Stokes-trained Turquoise Hope (3 g ex Jacquetta by Encosta de Lago) - a son of Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) - got off the mark on his third attempt when he broke his maiden over 1100 metres at Ararat on Tuesday and in the process added a timely update for his Hellbent (I Am Invincible) half-brother ahead of his sale at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale next year.

The three-year-old gelding finished third and sixth respectively on his only two starts as a juvenile, the gelding finished a length clear of In Hot Water (Headwater), while Marco Spada (Street Boss) was another length and a half away in third.

Purchased by his trainer, T H Keung, T M Hei, World Wide Bloodstock for $180,000 at the 2019 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the Newhaven Stud draft, the three-year-old is out of five-time winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare stakes-placed mare Jacquetta, meaning he is bred on the same cross as four stakes winners, including Group 1 winner Summer Passage and Invader.

Jacquetta herself is a sister to Group 2 winner Count Encosta and a half-sister to fellow Group 2 scorer Lieutenant (Danehill Dancer), while she is also a half-sister to the dam of Group 2 winner Victoria Quay (Dundeel).

Newhaven Park will offer the aforementioned Hellbent colt as Lot 61 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, while Snitzel has three lots catalogued at the sale, which gets underway on February 7.

The Arrowfield Stud-based sire has 58 lots catalogued at next year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
