The John Thompson-trained Flying Tyrol (2 f ex Burgeis by Catbird) - who is by Newgate Farm-based first-season sire Flying Artie (Artie Schiller) - posted an impressive victory in a 800 metre trial at Kembla Grange on Wednesday.

After being tardy from the barriers, the two-year-old filly was quickly into her stride and raced two wide, before surging to the lead to beat Hollywood Gossip (I’m All The Talk) by three-quarters of a length in a time of 47.03 seconds.

The filly is out of Listed-winning Group 1-placed mare Catbird (Danehill) mare Burgeis, who has produced two winners.

Burgeis herself is a sister to the dam of stakes winner Listed scorer Happy Cash (Time Thief), while further back the filly hails from the same family as 2005 Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Stratum (Redoute’s Choice) and Group 3 scorer Dystopia (Redoute’s Choice).

Flying Artie has sired one winner, while his first-crop also includes stakes-placed colt The Art of Flying and he has 16 lots catalogued at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Two trials later, Silver Thorn (2 g ex The Grey Flash by Not A Single Doubt) - who is by Flying Artie’s barnamate Capitalist (Written Tycoon)- posted an equally impressive trial over 800 metres.

Silver Thorn was coaxed away from the barriers and ridden to the front by Kathy O'Hara and he didn’t see another rival, scooting clear to beat Honeycreeper (Teofilo) by three lengths, stopping the clock at 47.39 seconds.

Purchased by Laurel Oak Bloodstock for $260,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Fernrigg Farm draft, the filly is out of SAJC Sires' Produce Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) winner The Grey Flash (Not A Single Doubt).

Further back this is the same family as Group 2 winner Brightexpectations (More Than Ready) and Listed scorer Brilliance (Rory’s Jester).

Newgate Farm-based first season sire Capitalist has sired one winner in Captivant, while his first crop also includes Forbes and Marine One and he has 48 lots catalogued at next year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
