The Paul Perry-trained Harlem Groove (2 c ex Harlem Shuffle by Oratorio) made a winning debut over 900 metres at Scone on Friday and in the process handed Newgate Farm first-season sire Flying Artie (Artie Schiller) with his second winner.

The two-year-old colt came into the race after winning his second barrier trial, having shown an unruly attitude on his first barrier trail, but he showed maturity beyond his years on Friday, when he beat The Storm In Me (Press Statement) by half a length, while Super Hot (Outreach) was a length and three-quarters further back in third.

The colt was purchased by his trainer for $80,000 from Goodwood Farm at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale earlier this year and he is out of winning Oratorio (Danehill) mare Harlem Shuffle, who has already produced one winner.

Harlem Shuffle herself is a daughter of Harlem Heat (Xaar), making her a half-sister to Listed scorer Harlem River (Fastnet Rock).

Harlem Heat is a half-sister to stakes-winning trio Hot As Hell (County), Flaming Hot (County) and Craig’s Dragon (Catbird).

Further back this is the same family as Yes Yes Yes (Rubick), who won last year’s Everest (1200m) and now stands alongside his father Rubick (Encosta De Lago) at Coolmore Stud, while last year’s Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) winner In Her Time (Time Thief) also features on the page.

Harlem Shuffle’s filly by Exosphere (Lonhro) will be offered by Goodwood Farm as Lot 633 at next year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Harlem Groove joins Princess Bojack as the stallion’s other winner and he has 16 lots catalogued at next year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
