Alison Of Tuffy produces shock performance in Just Now Stakes
The Peter Robl-trained Alison Of Tuffy (5 m ex Flibbertigibbet by Zabeel) produced a shock win in the Just Now Handicap (Listed, 1300m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday and in the process handed her Blue Gum Stud-based sire Manhattan Rain (Encosta De Lago) with his 15th stakes winner.
The five-year-old mare - who was sent off the unfancied $200 shot - took advantage of a tiring Maozi (Helmet), eventually beating him by a nose, while Krone (Eurozone) was another neck away in third.
The five-year-old mare is out of unplaced Zabeel (Sir Tristram) mare Flibbertigibbet and she is a half-sister to two other winners.
Alison Of Tuffy’s third dam is Group 1 scorer Stella Cedenta (Centaine), who in turn produced Listed winner Brilliant Bisc (Elvstroem), while she is also the grandam of Group 3 scorer Dashing Fellow (Duporth), Listed winner Aeronautical (Encosta De Lago) as well as fellow stakes winner Deep Image (Testa Rossa).
In 2019 Flibbertigibbet produced a colt by Darley-based sire Astern (Medaglia D’Oro) and she was covered by Coolmore Stud-based So You Think (High Chaparral) last season.
Manhattan Rain’s progeny are headed by Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner She Will Reign and South African Grade 1 winner Whisky Barron and he stood at Blue Gum Farm for a fee of $13,200 (inc GST) this season.
