Seven for Real Saga

Sweet Dolly lands Calaway Gal Stakes

The late stallion Real Saga (Tale Of The Cat) sired his seventh stakes winner on Saturday as his daughter Sweet Dolly (2 f ex Sweet Cherub by Canny Lad) retained her unbeaten record in the Calaway Gal Stakes (Listed, 1000m) at Eagle Farm.

Last seen breaking her maiden on debut over 1000 metres at Townsville, the Kevin Hansen-trained filly reeled in leader Fake Love (I Am Invincible) in the straight, eventually beating her by three-quarters of a length. Rhapsody Rose (Star Witness) finished another neck away in third.

“She did so much wrong but still got home,” Hansen said.

“She was purchased as a weanling at the Magic Millions and showed ability from day one.

“She has done a mighty job in the last fortnight. She trialled at Rocky (Rockhampton) on Monday, Townsville on the Saturday. We weren’t going to come here, but she pulled up that well we took her blood and she was spot on so we came.

“She is not paid up for the Magic Millions so she can go to the paddock now and have a decent spell.”

The filly was purchased for a mere $1,500 by Kenneth and Michelle Walker at Book 2 of the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale from the Raheen Stud draft and she is one five winners and first stakes scorer out of Sweet Cherub (Canny Lad).

Further afield this is the same family as Listed scorer Love And Money (Secret Savings).

In 2019 Sweet Cherub missed to the late Aquis Farm stallion Spill The Beans (Snitzel) and she was covered Heroic Valour (Fastnet Rock).

Real Saga died in 2019.
