Filly provides brother with update ahead of sale
The Matthew Smith-trained Atonement (3 f Dundeel - Petworth House by Encosta De Lago) got off the mark at the fourth time of asking as he landed the Jan Fenton Celebrant Plate (2100m) at Goulburn on Friday and in the process handed her brother a timely update ahead of him selling at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale next month.
The three-year-old filly surged clear to beat Zarafah (Americain) two and three-quarter lengths, while Shamani (Shamexpress) was another half a length away in third.
Purchased by his trainer for $130,000 at the 2019 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the Arrowfield Stud draft, the filly is out of the winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Petworth House, who has already produced two other winners.
Petworth House is herself a half-sister to Listed scorer Theanswermyfriend (High Chaparral).
Further back this is the same family as dual stakes winner Latin Love (Danehill Dancer) and Group 1 scorer Cerulean Sky (Darshaan) - the dam of Group 2 scorer Honolulu (Montjeu).
The filly also hails from the same family as Irish Oaks (Gr 1, 1m4f) winner Moonstone (Dalakhani).
Arrowfield Stud will offer the filly’s aforementioned brother at next month’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and the colt will go through the ring as Lot 637.
The colt is one of 13 lots catalogued by the Arrowfield Stud-based sire Dundeel at the Gold Coast sale which gets underway on January 12.
