Daughter of Not A Single Doubt wins at the Gold Coast
The Chris Munce-trained Thrasher (3 f Not A Single Doubt - Sucker Punch by Encosta De Lago) finally got off the mark on her tenth attempt as she broke her maiden in the JP Flying Maiden Handicap (2200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
The-three-year-old filly pulled clear to beat Bellice (Myboycharlie) by two lengths, while Redenzo Bullet (Bullet Train) was a further head away in third.
Purchased by the Millsy Syndicate and Brad Widdup Racing for $430,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Coolmore Stud draft, the gilly is out of the unraced Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Sucker Punch, who was purchased by Andrew Williams Bloodstock for $350,000 at the 2017 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, when carrying the filly in utero.
The filly’s second dam is 1996 Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) and Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) winner Merlene (Danehill) and she produced South African Grade 2 scorer Merlene De Lago (Encosta De Lago) - the dam of ill-fated Listed scorer Burnstone (Redoute’s Choice), while Merlene is also the grandam of 2012 VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) winner Dear Demi (Dehere).
Merlene is herself a half-sister to fellow dual elite level winner Miss Moneypenny (Brocco) and Group 3 scorer Compulsion (Danehill), while further back this is the same family as 2016 Golden Slipper Stakes winner Capitalist (Written Tycoon), who stands at Newgate Farm, as well as Group 3 winner Red Excitement (Excites).
Sucker Punch produced a colt Coolmore’s Triple Crown-winning shuttler American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile) who was purchased for $80,000 during Round 2 of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and he is now called Sound of Silence and is unraced. The mare has most recently been covered by 2,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) winning Coolmore Stud shuttler Magna Grecia (Invincible Spirit).
Being out of an Encosta De Lago mare, the filly is bred on the same cross as Group 1 winner Mighty Boss as well as Group 2-winning duo Classique Legend and Not A Single Cent.
Not A Single Doubt - who was pensioned at Arrowfield Stud earlier this year - has 17 lots catalogued at next month’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
