Rockin’ Artie scores on the Gold Coast
Newgate Farm-based first-season sire Flying Artie (Artie Schiller) sired his third first-crop winner on Saturday as Rockin' Artie (2 g ex Rock Beauty by Stratum) saluted the judge over 1200 metres at the Gold Coast.
Last seen running fifth on debut at Doomben, the Scott Morrisey-trained gelding had no issues getting through the heavy going, eventually pulling clear to beat Watachoice (Choisir) by a length and a quarter, while Spill The Diamonds (Spill The Beans) was a further length away in third.
The gelding was purchased by John Morrisey for $110,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Ashleigh Thoroughbreds draft earlier this year and he is the third winner out of dual winner Stratum (Redoute’s Choice) mare Rock Beauty.
Further afield this is the same family as Group 2 scorer I Am A Ripper (Mukaddamah) and Group 3 winner Murphy’s Blu Boy (Blu Tusmani).
Meanwhile, the gelding also shares a page with winning Group 1-placed mare Nothin' Leica Cat (Tale Of The Cat) - the dam of Group 3-winning duo Stampede (High Chaparral) and Thinkin Big (High Chaparral), as well as Listed scorer Just Thinkin’ (So You Think).
Rock Beauty produced a filly by Coolmore Stud-based So You Think (High Chaparral) this season and she was covered by his barnmate Vancouver (Medaglia d’Oro) in September.
Rockin’ Artie joins Princess Bojack and Harlem Groove as Flying Artie’s other winners and he has 16 lots catalogued for next month’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, while the stallion has ten lots set to go through the ring at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, which gets underway at Riverside Stables in Sydney on February 7.
