Son of Pride Of Dubai chalks up first victory
The Paul Perry-trained Zoomerango (3 g Pride of Dubai - Atlantis Dream by Elusive City) chalked up his maiden victory at the sixth time of asking when he landed the Turangga Farm Plate (2200m) at Scone on Monday.
The three-year-old son of Coolmore Stud-based Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) pulled clear in the closing stages to beat Dunlee (Dissident) by three-quarters of a length, while Hichaux (High Chaparral) was another three and a half lengths away in third.
The gelding was purchased by Colm Santry for $90,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale from the Sledmere Stud draft, before failing to make his $130,000 reserve at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale the following year.
The gelding is out of Elusive City (Elusive Quality) mare Atlantis Dream, whose six wins was headed by a victory in the 2015 SAJC Queen of the South Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m).
Further back this is the same family as Group 3 scorer Ascona (Grosvenor), and he also hails from the same family as Listed winners St Gallen (Decies) and Andermatt (Amalgam) as well as Group 3-placed Celerina (Harbor Prince) - the dam of Group 2 winner Okiwi Bay (Kinjite).
Ascona is also a half-sister to the dam of Bulla Borghese (Belong To Me), who landed the VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) in 2002 and she herself is the dam of six winners, headed by 2013 Furious Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner Bound For Earth (Northern Meteor).
In 2018 Atlantis Dream produced a filly by Newgate Farm-based first-season sire Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon), before foaling a colt by fellow Newgate Farm stallion Russian Revolution (Snitzel) the following year and she was covered again by the same sire this season.
Pride Of Dubai - who was crowned champion first-season sire last season - has 21 lots catalogued at next month’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, while he has 17 yearlings set to go under the hammer at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, which gets underway at Riverside Stables in Sydney on February 7.
